48th Day of Autumn, Nineteenth Turn of the Tenth Pass. Tillek Hold
Dining Hall
This spacious room's lintel is trimmed with dark blue and white
painted ribbons, entwining their way around and eventually
connecting together again. In the center of the floor is a large
golden dais that has been raised up from the floor a little. Set
upon the dais is a large table, gleaming from care. Around the
table are large backed chairs, their wooden frames shining as
well. The chair backs are cushioned for comfort when dining, each
with a common scene of a small skiff sailing out into a sea of
turbulent waters on woven on them. Carved into the dais is an
ocean line with a great dolphin jumping out from it, symbolizing
Tillek's devotion to the sea.
Below the Lord's table are rows of tables set parallel, fitted
with chairs at the near, and gradually being reduced to roughed
benches towards the outer doors. The scent of luscious food waft
through the doors that lead into the kitchen and hover around,
filling the air with savory and appetizing smells. This room is
naturally dim, through the glowbaskets set up around the sides
add some light that reflects off the woodwork and adds a hint of
ambiance to the meals eaten here.
You see Dinner Table here.
Obvious exits: Great Hall Kitchens Back Stairs
Nemyne walks into the Dining Hall.
Venadin walks into the Dining Hall.
Caeryn walks into the Dining Hall.
Drudges make their way through the people, holding out wine skins
to refill glasses, and provide fresh ones for newcomers.
"Have a seat wherever," they mutter to you as they make
sure you are fully wined.
Venadin makes his way to a place near the hearth. The click of
his cane echoing through the room until he reaches a seat and
slowly eases himself into it.
Caeryn wanders into the Hall and nods toward the few people she
passes. Here on a trip to visit one of the new quarries. Might as
well get some decent food in the process. A goblet is swiped off
of a passing drudge and a nod of thanks is offered.
Kasey walks into the Dining Hall.
Genevieve arrives in from the Kitchens with sweet aromas of
cooking food.
Kasey says, "Hi."
Kaetetrini takes a wine glass from a passing drudge, and goes
over to where
Veradin has taken his seat. "Wine sir?" she asks,
seeing that he has none, her voice a bit shaky, but gentle.
Quedista walks into the Dining Hall.
Saring walks into the Dining Hall.
Venadin sighs and thanks a drudge for a warm mug of wine. He
doffs his hat and nods greetings to those in the room as best he
can.
Saring says, "Hi."
The old man must be blind not to see Trini's knot on her
shoulder, (hardly a drudge), but even if she knew what the man
was thinking of her, she'd prolly not mind. Trini looks up, and
sees Gen, giving Venadin a respectful nod, she wends her way over
to her fellow Baker, "Gen," she whispers excitedly
holding out her hands.
Fellar walks into the Dining Hall.
Kasey says, "gen?"
Drudges pass through the crowds, offering wine to those whose
glasses have emptied, and glasses to those whose hands are empty.
"Sit," they say, motioning to empty chairs at dinner
tables set up with roses and crystal.
Saring sits down.
Venadin sips his mug of wine and rubs his eyes,"My apologize
young one...the eyes fail the older one gets."
Quedista sits.
Kasey sits.
Caeryn finds a place near the front of the table that she slips
into quietly and smiles again toward the trudge as her still
half-full goblet is refilled. Pleasant service and all. She's
starving and hopes the food is just as nice as the atmosphere.
Fellar walks out to the Great Hall.
Emmett steps in from the back stairway.
Genevieve walks in, her taffeta skirt rustling. This MSH Head
Cook got all dressed up for her friend's dinner. Looking around,
Gennie's gaze catches sight of Kaetetrini and she makes her way
there, offering to help when she is close enough to speak.
Emmett appears. It was inevitable really. "Trini? For
me?" Well maybe not officially, but now that he's seen it...
Smiling benevolently right and left, he seats himself and rubs
his hands. "I don't know where to begin..."
Kaetetrini gives Gen's hand a sqeeze, and takes a deep breath,
and then nods at a drudge. He and three others disappear into the
kitchen, and come out with platters full of something, and Trini
goes to the second to head table, and taps on it gently, to get
everyone's attention, looking at Gen nervously for support.
Ilitana walks into the Dining Hall.
A drudge comes over to Ilitana, "Take a seat, please,"
he says, pulling one out.
Teraille pages, "Hey... I'm gonna need to be adjusting the
@party in around 15 or 20 minutes... You want any updates on your
message, or should I leave it as is?"
Ilitana walks over to Caeryn. "Hello" She says quietly,
and sits down next to her.
Caeryn turns in her seat so she's able to look toward where the
Master is preparing to talk. Out of the corner of her eye she
sees a fellow Miner and smiles to her but makes a sign to be
silent. She shall talk while they're eating.
Ilitana is quiet.
Genevieve smiles at Trini, the short cook standing in the
background so as not to distract from the other, though how one
could drag their eyes from the Master is beyond her. She pushes a
stray lock of chocolate hair behind her ear and nods, trying to
tell Trini to begin already. :)
Esper walks into the Dining Hall.
Venadin smiles about the room and settles into the chair a little
more comfortably.
Sarafina walks into the Dining Hall.
Kaetetrini takes another deep breath, and opens her mouth to say
something, but nothing comes out. She looks to the drudges, who
begin to place plates in front of each person, gently tinking as
they hit they hit the table. Golden slices of toast rest in the
center of a decorative plate, its azure shade a soft foil for the
toast. A small lump of butter sits in the middle of the top most
slice of toast, slowly melting and mixing with the sticky sweet
syrup poured over all. The aroma of klah hangs in the air above
the plate, treating one to a preview of what the toast will taste
like. Trini opens her mouth again, and manages to speak this
time, in a gentle, not very loud voice, "This is from the
Master Sea Hold, a creation of Journeywoman Genvieve," she
gestures to Gen, "it's called Klah Toast." A simple
introduction, but it got across what she wanted to get across.
Swinging the doors open, Esper walks through them and into the
room. He stops just a few feet in front of them, casting an
immediate glance around the Dining Hall. His eyes search,
vigorously, and finally acquire his target... Trini. He begins
walking just as Fina comes through the doors, his destination,
his target. He weaves his way around the tables and people
seated, mumbling something to each person he walks by which is
rather inaudible.
Jossen arrives in from the Kitchens with sweet aromas of cooking
food.
Sarafina pauses as she steps in, glancing about for the familiar
face she's here for, and here alone for. Finally, she spots
Kaetetrini as Esper heads in the cook's direction, and carefully
winds her way towards her too, merely noding politely to those
seated as she passes them..
Jossen runs in nearly out of breath. He looks around lost among
all the big people
Emmett helpfully applauds Trini, although he manages to restrain
himself from cheering. About time somebody had a party to
celebrate food.
Kaetetrini glances at Emmett and turns a little rosier than she
already is, before she glances around, to make sure that everyone
is getting their plates.
Caeryn looks curiously down at the plate placed in front of her.
She's never heard of such a think. She picks it up carefully and
takes a small bite from the toast. A slightly surprised look
crosses her face. Interesting, and good too. Hmm. A small smile
lights her face.
A young man pulls his chair next to Quedista, and smiles
winningly, "Mind if I sit here?" he asks, pointing a
very small space between her and the next person eating.
Emmett cheerfully takes his plate and starts making inroads into
his klah toast. Not bad, not bad... and he says as much, although
it's a little garbled seeing how his mouth is still full of the
food in question.
Jossen begins wading through the crowd wondering if this is what
it's like living in a pod like society as he makes his way
towards whoever he can find that knows him.
Lirrel arrives in from the Kitchens with sweet aromas of cooking
food.
Quedista smiles. "No, not at all." She scoots over a
bit.
Litania walks into the Dining Hall.
The young man makes no haste in sitting next to Quedista.
"I'm Rel," he holds out his hand, "How are
you?" The other goes to the klah toast.
Telion walks into the Dining Hall.
Sirron the Sailor walks into the Dining Hall.
Emmett knows Jossen although whether he's noticed anything beyond
the table is debatable. He hasn't even started flirting yet,
although he'll happily indulge in deep and meaningful
conversation on the topic of food with his so-fortunate
neighbours.
Lynsay walks into the Dining Hall.
Kaetetrini's gaze scans the room and she smiles nervously,
glancing around, and seeing both Esper and Fina making a beeline
to her, she holds out her hand in greeting, her nervousness
evident in her bouncing.
Lirrel makes her way into the dining hall, glancing around at the
small crowd already there. She approaches warily, a bit shyly,
not really knowing most of those in the room.
Caeryn turns to Ilitana and smiles. "What do you think of
this? It's an interesting combination. Two things combined into
one.."
Quedista smiles, and shakes Rel's hand. "Well met, Rel. I'm
Quedista, and I'm doing well. And you?"
Rel nods, "Very well," he replies, after swallowing his
toast. Never heard of that, klah toast. "You're a
baker?" he asks, glancing at her shoulder, flashing that
winning smile once more.
Quedista nods, also. "Yes, I am. What do you do?"
Sirron the Sailor steps into the Dining Hall. Yes. Sirron the
Sailor actually moved from the Singing Shipfish. Typically,
though, he holds a small skin of, presumably, wine in his hand as
he looks around the room. "I'm here... they said there was
food." His voice is... not modulated. It's loud. Pure and
simple. But why should he care? "Where's my food?" he
croaks.
Mayan walks into the Dining Hall.
A drudge hurries over to Sirron and directs him to a seat,
"Sit," he says amicably, a glance given to the head
cook for instructions.
Esper reaches out and takes one of Trini's hands, grinning. He
sidles up next to her, leans over--far over as he towers well
above Trini-- and murmurs something in low tones to her. Smiling,
now, he winks and then looks up at all of the folks massing in
the Dining Hall.
Esper whispers, "Hi there, Trini. Lookin' good. Lookin'
good. Congratulations."
Sarafina smiles brightly, momentarily forgetting that for Trini,
and this friend alone she wears a.. skirt *shudder*. "Trini!
Her voice is light, carrying only to those nearest as she slides
to a halt by her friend's chair. "Sorry I'm a little late; I
was.. busy..." she holds out something for her friend.
Another gift perhaps?
Genevieve still stands in the background as her klah toast is
tested, hoping that it's liked. One of her favorite things to
make for breakfast or late night snacks, it is...
Jossen looks around once more a frown crossing his lips. He heads
over to the serving table and finds that he's right near Trini.
"Trini!"
Kaetetrini looks up at Esper and beams him a bright smile, her
cheeks reddening slightly, seemingly not to notice Sirron. She
sqeezes his hand, and then gaze goes to Fina, and she looks her
up and down, and her smile gets even bigger (if that's at all
possible), a glance is given to Jossen, and then back to Fina.
"For me?" she asks, biting her bottom lip, all the
people about her dividing her already divided attention.
Coltro walks into the Dining Hall.
Katyana is led in by Coltro.
Rel smiles broadly at Quedista, "I...eat," he replies,
taking another bit of the toast.
Ankarlen walks into the Dining Hall.
Drudges walk about, filling wine glasses, and bending down to
patrons asking, "Do you like it?" and "More?"
and other such things.
Taree walks into the Dining Hall.
Sarafina grins and holds out - a box. A small, wooden box. Eyes
dance, and a nod is given the broadening smile as she thrusts it
into her friend's hands. "You better like it..." she
mock-threatens, before glancing about for a seat - preferably
near 'Trini.
Taree walks into the dining hall, somewhat self-consciously as
she looks around at all the people here.
Ilitana laughs softly, even more softly than usual so as not to
disturb others. "Where do you live?"
Kaetetrini takes the box, as she doesn't seem to have much
choice, and opens it gingerly, and gasps at what is inside,
"Oh Fina!" she breaths, "You didn't have to!"
Talani walks into the Dining Hall.
Emmett nods brightly to wine-fillers and people he knows.
"Evening, Fina, Esper--white for me, thank you--oh, there's
Ankarlen." The proud father no doubt. They should do this
more often.
Coltro pulls out a chair for Katyana next to himself and settles
down to the meal. He sends a bright smile to Trini and hops that
will do for a congratulations for now atleast till he gets to
speak to her later.
Sirron the Sailor looks over the drudge and sort of
hiss-gasp-chokes. "Sit?! Sit. Bah. If I wanted to sit, boy,
I would've...well..." He pauses, as if he forgot. He brings
his wine skin up and takes a large swig of it, letting it swing
back to his side. His eyes brighten, "I would've stayed in
the 'Fish! Food... I've known Trini since she was... small. And I
get greeted by a drudge?!" He starts walking over to the
serving table where Trini is. He'll set things straight.
Jossen sighs as he sees Trini so busy. Too busy except to honor
him with a glance. he thinks 'well, she's having her day I guess'
and he turns to walk back to a table to find a space to sit
Sarafina chuckles a little, sliding into a seat which seems to
have just.. appeared next to Trini. Or did it? ;) "No, I
didn't, but I wanted to - as is my right, for aren't you my
friend, best friend and closest one here at the hold? T'is only
right I give you something on this special occation...." she
peers at the food about her, and gives a wave, belatedly of
course, to Emmett. "Hmm, whats that?" she points
towards the cooked bread. "It smells lovely..."
Taree decides to find a place out of the way, not wanting to
impose on anyone, especially as she sees that she doesn't really
know anyone here.
Just as Trini finishes, another wave of drudges come out, large
platters in their hands. The remaining drudges put the extra klah
toast on the back most table, and begins sweeping in with a most
peculiar dish. A strong aroma drifts off the white fingers of
steam that escape from the hot plate filled with recently roasted
tunnelsnake steaks and wrapped in pillowy mashed tubers. The meat
is a brown-ish pink, when it is well done, and flecked with the
seasonings and herbs used to bring out its true flavor. Despite
how easy it looks to cut and chew, the tunnelsnake is tough and
chewy, making it a bit of effort to eat, but no effort to enjoy.
It's the taste of tunnelsnake that makes the dish at all
pleasing. The flavors burst upon the tongue in an explosive way,
leaving a tingling sensation when swallowed. The herb cooked into
the meat are enhanced by the tunnelsnake's own natural spice. The
texture only suits to rub more of the flavor into the heavenly
meat, showing why truly, it is a fine dish to those daring enough
to try it. The drudges come in and begin picking up klah plates,
adn replacing them with the tunnelsnake.
Katyana's eyes leave Coltro for a moment to examine the
unfamiliar dining hall, brand new face making her even more
self-conscious. She finally has her fill of examining the crowd
and smiles back at her date for the evening, settling down in the
offered chair.
Lirrel snags a half-glass of wine from a passing drudge,
softening the wine with water to fill the rest of the glass. She
sips, watching the drudges enter with the tunnelsnake steaks.
Emmett is happy with a belated wave. He's in a very genial mood
all round tonight. "Jossen! Managed to sneak some wine
yet?" It's never as much fun once you're legal. Then all
conversation dribbles from his mouth with the drool inspired by
the sight of the next course.
Trini looks down at the bread and ohs, "It's Klah Toast, Gen
made it," she points to Genevieve at the other side of her.
She sees the steaks going out and stands up, tapping her wine
glass gently to get the attention of the eaters once again, a
half flustered look on her face. Count on Trini to not be able to
concentrate on more than one thing at one time.
Lirrel decides to find a spot at a table. Picking an empty chair,
she seats herself lightly and directs a cheery smile to those
sitting around her.
Drudges flit around, some picking up plate, other filling wine
goblets, and yet others placing plates of steak down infront of
each patron. "Is it good?" "Do you like it?"
"More?"
Sarafina gives 'Trini an encouraging look, and a cheerful wink as
she quickly snags some klah toast - two and a half pieces, before
the drudges whisk away the plates. Eyes stare and 'hmmmm' with
folding eyebrows at the steaks as she takes a bite from her
toast.. "Mmmm! this is good!" she proclaims, not tooooo
loudly, as she nods at the drudge to place some steaks on her
plate.
Quedista smiles at Rel. "So... where are you from?"
"This is Tunnelsnake Steak," Trini announces, to the
crowd, one couldn't say 'over' the crowd, as her voice isn't loud
enough. "A specialty of Journeywoman Annalysa at Ista
Weyr," she nods, her curls bouncing, and she bites her lip
self-consciously, "It's really rather good." /This/ is
the dish she's worried about.
Coltro salivates. Steak, by Faranth's Egg Trini he thinks you
obviously want to kill me tomorrow. He tastes the steak then
looks around and back at his...date. The girl is beautiful he
thinks as he chews, he swallows the succulent morsal doing
justice to the steak but her eyes are for Katyana.
Genevieve nods and smiles softly from behind Trini when she hears
her named mentioned, but having just cooked something up for her
own hold, doesn't partake in eating. She sighs as she gets tired
of standing and finds an out of the way chair so that she might
rest her feet, perking up when she hears Annly's tunnelsnake
mentioned. That stuff's good...
Emmett isn't at all worried by either steak or his arteries,
knife and fork whirring away as he slices off pieces to eat...
and savour. "Mmm, Trini... just... mmm." is his
opinion.
Sarafina gazes, fork poised abov.. "Tunnelsnake stake?"
An eyebrow is raised in.. well, not disbelief but unsureness.
But, if Trini made it.. she carefully cuts a piece in half,
raises it to her lips and... chews. Slowly. After a few moments,
she swallows, and eats the next segment, washing that down with
wine. "Mmmm... not bad Trini.,.. for Tunnelsnake,
anyways.." she takes another sip, and winks at her friend.
Lirrel 's sharp eyes spy a small child peeking his head in the
door of the dining hall, a mischevious imp who has escaped the
nursery. With a sigh, she abandons her half-eaten steak (which
she was very much enjoying) and makes her way to the doors,
picking up the little one and heading out the doors with him, to
return him to his proper place.
Kaetetrini, to prove the stuff is not only safe, but good, takes
her own steak, and cuts a slice off. Popping into her mouth
dainitly, she goes to finish it off. "Thank you, Fina,"
she says inbetween mouthfuls, taking a gulp of her own wine.
Sarafina just nods. "Your welcome 'Trini.." she reaches
and adds several more steaks to her plate, licking her lips a
little.
Quedista looks at the young man next to her. Hmm... he's been
silent for a while now.
Kaetetrini smiles, her gaze still going around the room. She
bites her bottom lip again, as she finishes her steaks,
"Good Emmett?" she asks across the table, he seems to
be enjoying himself.
Rel is silent because he's eating. When he said he was an eater,
that's exactly what he meant. After swallowing, he beams that
smile at her again, "I am sorry, you were saying?"
Quedista smiles again. "Oh, I just asked where you were
from."
Taree eats quietly, enjoying the meal even if she doesn't truly
participate in the conversations going on around her.
Drudges begin to circulate with the wine again, while another set
take up the empty steak plate, the extras being placed on the
back table with the klah toast. Which means the third course of
the dinner. The kitchen door opens once again, to reveal another
set of platters. On them, arrayed on a platter are several large
gooey cubes. They are all predominately white and appear to be
frosted with very finely ground sugar. Underneath the light coat
of sugar each cube is a slightly different hue, however they seem
to be of two main types, a very pale brown, and the more flashy
pinks and oranges of the fruit flavored kind.
Rel ohs, and nods, "Master Sea Hold," he replies,
popping the last of his steak in his mouth before a drudge
removes it.
Emmett is enjoying himself very much. He raises his glass to
Trini in a delighted toast, "Encore!" And there's the
next course...whatever it is.
April arrives in from the Kitchens with sweet aromas of cooking
food.
Kaetetrini giggles at Emmett, and stands again, seems she's doing
all sorts of standing, "This is MasterBaker Martin's own
recipe!" she beams proudly, obvious a happy minnow to have
obtained it. "They're called Sweet Squishies, and they're a
type of dessert, from Ista, not Fort." she adds quickly.
Sarafina pauses as she places another slice of meat in her mouth;
The fruit both looks and smells delicious! Carefully finishing
her share of the meat, she wipes her mouth with a napkin (thank
the stars her old auntie insisted on those etiquette lessons all
those turns ago!) and nods as one drudge takes away her plate,
and another hands her one with 'Sweet Squishes' on it. She grins
at Trini once, before tentatively trying out the offered meal.
Quedista nods. "I'm originally from Crom, but I reside at
Keroon right now."
Kaetetrini doesn't take any herself, but watches Fina, for a
first reaction, before turning her face to the crowd, for their
reaction. Her bottom lip is in her mouth, and her hands are
clasped at her chest nervously.
Rel makes a little ahh noise with his mouth, as he watches the
'sweet squishies' be placed on his plate. "I've never been
to Kerron," he says, popping one his mouth.
Quedista smiles. "Yes, I'm an assistant cook there."
Sarafina silently places the fruit pieces in her mouth, closing
her eyes as she does so. And pauses. And chews. And chews. And
licks her lips before placing some more squishes in her mouth;
"Mmmm...mmmm!" Rude though it is to speak with your
moth full, 'Fina winks her approval.
Drudges begin to refil wine glasses, though the need doesn't seem
quite as urgent as it was earlier in the night. Glasses are being
emptied at a slower rate, "More?" the eternal question
is asked to all around.
Emmett busily sets to on the fruit, rolling his eyes in
exaggerrated bliss. "Yes, more." he murmurs to those
terribly helpful drudges.
Kaetetrini bounces with excitement, three courses down, and
everyone is happy so far! She stands up, the squishies being
devoured quickly as there wasn't too many of them, and taps the
table to get the eater's attention once more. She waits patiently
for eyes to focus on her....
Rel turns his gaze from Quedista for a moment, to Kaetetrini at
the head table, leaning on the back of his chair.
Ankarlen sidles in quietly, speaking to an old fisherman friend
of his for quite a while. As the grizzled sailor walks off, Ank
moves over to take a seat at a vacant spot, a table beside the
largest one.
Emmett focusses on Trini, although with all the wine, that's
getting harder to do.
April walks in and takes an emty glass. She smiles slightly to
the drudge, who seems to unwillingly pour wine in her glass.
Walking up to the crowd, she peers over some heads to see what
they are tasting. Turning her head to the right, she grins a
'trini with a nod, noting that she is listening.
Rokeya walks into the Dining Hall.
Kaetetrini glances around, and beams at Ankarlen excitedly, her
gaze resting on him for a long while before saying, "This
next course is called Wherry Pie," she giggles girlishly,
"My favorite," enough said, so she beams at her father
once more, and then takes a seat. The drudges come out with
several platters of sliced pie, as if on cue.
In a ceramic pie dish sits a golden, flaky crusted pie. The top
of the pie has a little ceramic wherry stuck in it, to let out
the steam, while he sides have been pinched with a fork to
resemble little avian footprints. cooked to a golden brown, the
insides steam and hiss with the heat radiating from them. A slice
cut, reveals the insides to be stripped wherry, fingeroots,
whiteroots and a smattering of peas in a thick, cream sauce.
Sarafina glances up as she licks the sugary stuff from her lips,
beaming at trini as she announces the next course. "Mine
too..." she grins, before eyes spot another familiar face;
Rokeya - for whom she has saved a seat on her other side. Waving
her over, she helps herself to a fairly large slice; careful not
to get ANYTHING on this skirt, which seems to enjoy wrapping
itself about her legs. Oi.
Emmett's pudgy fingers reach eagerly for the wherry pie. Gotta
love the way those roots crunch. Cream sauce dribbles down his
chin to be chased by a tongue (his). He sends Ankarlen a happy
beam, "You must be very proud..."
Rokeya scurries in, smiling graciously and nodding politely to
friends and aquaintences as she makes her way further into the
hall, following her nose of course. Eyes scan the room and settle
on Fina; Rok swerves in and out of milling drudges and pulls the
chair out that was saved for her. "I'm so sorry I'm
late!" she begins and sits with a flourish, getting
incontrol of herself.
Quedista yawns. My, that food must have made her a bit tired. sh
notes this as she pulls herself out of a daydream.
Quedista looks apologetically at Rel. "I'm sorry, I must
have been daydreaming. All this food makes me sleepy."
Utoxin slips in, and quickly finds a spot to sit.
Ankarlen takes a moderately large piece of the pie, smiling back
to Trini and turning to nod to Emmett, though "Mm-hmm"
is all he can mumble through a mouthful of hot wherry.
Kaetetrini takes a slice of wherry pie, it her favorite after
all, and begins to dig in with relish. A glace is given to Rok,
only one person away from her, and a polite nod given her way,
before her attention goes back to her wherry pie.
April takes a slice the wherry pie, the creamy filling dripping
lightly on her fingers. She takes one bite, munches softly, and
takes another bite with a nod, "Mmm... MMMmm. This is really
good." She takes more bites, until all she has is the
filling on her fingers, and she licks that off too.
Sarafina just grins as she flicks a finger at a drudge - "No
problem, since I saved ye a seat. Make yourself comfortable
Rokeya..."; Said drudge places a slice of Wherry pie before
Rokeya as 'Fina smooths off her skirt- has Rok noticed? Finasnork
in a skirt? hmm? "This is very good pie Trini!" she
munches, expression bright, with a half wave at Utoxin whose
entrance she has noticed..
Rel is too busy stuffing his face to be sleepy. How does he stay
so thin? He nods at Quedista, "mmmhmmm."
Utoxin takes a plate of the Wherry Pie! Oh boy, just in time for
his favorite. He digs in, obviously enjoying it immensely.
Quedista takes a small piece of pie, and she starts to eat it.
Mm, she thinks to herself.
Kaetetrini smiles at Fina, albeit not quite as bright, and
glances at Fina's waving target. She blushes slightly, and then
goes back to her pie, her eyes scanning the room once again for
the reactions of the people. One of Trini's favorite
passtimes--watching people eat.
April knew becoming a baker would have its advantages. You get to
bake all this yummy food. Licking her fingers one more time,
April looks around to see whats next to dive into.
Emmett is always happy to entertain Trini in such a fashion.
Working his way steadily through the pie, then wiping the rest of
the sauce up with his fingers and licking them off.
Utoxin quickly works his way to the end of the Wherry Pie, and
glances up, spotting Trini, and grinning. He offers her a wink
when her glance passes by him.
Rokeya's eyes light up when the food is placed infront of her.
Politely, she begins by taking a bite or four. Leaning over, Rok
says in a cheerful voice to her dear friend, "With you at my
side, Fina, how could I not be?" Rok flashes a smile towards
Sarafina before, between bites, commenting, "Trini, this is
excellent!", pointing at the wherry pie.
Drudges, not quite on cue this time, come in with another
plattter, oh it looks like dessert! Gold frosting streams across
the sky blue rectanglular face of this cake. Twisting and turning
about different shades of gold from into a Queen Dragon's head.
Eyes of candied drops add the appearance that this Queen is
laughing at something. Carefully set next to the cake is a simple
tool--a cakeknife, urging someone to sample this cake. The first
cut in would reveal a moist, fragrant klah cake. The bitter klah
flavor has been tempered with sugar, creating a balance between
the two. Again, wine glasses are filled, and plates taken away,
only to be replaced by others.
"Thank you Lady Rokeya," Trini says formally, nodding
her head, her curls, which have begun to fall out of place,
falling forward slightly with the movement of her head. She
stands, and sighs, feeling she has no time to get the eaters
attention once again, "This is A Draconic Laughing
Cake," Trini announces faultily, as if she's afraid of
getting the name wrong, "A specialty of my Master, Sybil of
Paradise Hold." An introduction as short and to the point as
all the rest, and the young cook sits back down.
April sips her wine happily, licking her lips with pride. The
smile on April's face never fades, nor do her eyes stop staring
at the food being brought out and eaten.
Utoxin peers at the cake, and ooohs. This looks like it will be
good.
Dessert! One of Emmett's seven favourite courses. And after this
much wine, Draconic laughing cake should go down quite well.
Sarafina stares at the cake, fork pausing outside slightly slack
jawed mouth; "Oh Trini! Did you bake that??" eye would
bug out, but thats unseemly. And Fina's wearing a skirt. Can't
bug out in a skirt. Pie is finally consummed, as are the
vegtables taken with them. "NMmmm... Beautiful Trini... I
can't wait to taste the cake!"
Kaetetrini manages to blush at Fina's compliment,
"Aye," she whispers in reply to her question, one way
to get on Trini's good side, compliment her food.
The drudges don't wait very long for the little cakes to be
consumed, as out comes another platter. On top of a bed of
steaming, white rivergrains, sits a two large fillets of a sea
fish of some sort. Soaked in an herbal dressing, the smells of
wine, vinegar and oil, mixed with thyme, sage, rosemary, red
pepper, parsley, carried on a base of garlic, rise from the fish
in rare form. Flaky, and golden brown from a long baking, the
fish awaits to be eaten.
Quedista looks at the fish, quite impressed. She turns to the
young man next to her. "This looks delicious."
Emmett hastily stuffs down the rest of his cake, to make room in
his mouth for the recently entered fish. Sniff, sniff, ahhh...
Will it never end? A contented smile is sent to Trini, and he
begins this latest delicacy.
Kaetetrini sees the drudges come out this time, and stands up,
"This is Marianaded Fish, a recipe of Mast--" she
pauses, and looks down quickly before looking back up,
"Journeyman Gassabias. It's a Tillek delight!" She ends
it on a high note, with an accompanied giggle, before sitting
back down, her cake, untouched, being taken away, to be replaced
by a fish.
Utoxin positively gawks. He hasn't seen fish prepared that well
in ages. He glances up towards Trini, then back at the fish.
/She/ did this?"
Rel nods, "It does indeed," he replies.
Sarafina stares and stares, even as she takes her fair share of
cake - oh, stars! Fish! Trini the wondercook has done it again,
April /loves/ fish. Without waiting a second, she takes some onto
a fork, she shoves it in her mouth. Munching softly, it doesn't
take long for April to get the delicious taste in her mouth.
Utoxin quickly samples the fish, and rolls his eyes with
pleasure.
Quedista looks up again. Wow, this food is really getting to her.
It's very good, though.
Sarafina pauses as she rests her fork on her meat. "My my
my..Trini, this has to be too good to be true - I knew you
deserved your master's knot!" she promptly samples her fish,
eyeing others' reactions, and winking at Trini..
April nods to Trini, "Yeah, this food is great!"
Kaetetrini turns almost violet at that comment, her own gaze
going to her fish, which remains untouched, as usual.
"Thankee," she mutters, glancing around shyly.
Rokeya scans the room again, the fishs' delicate smell delighting
her sences. One bite of it and she stands up, not seeing another
head of raven curls, slightly annoyed. She pushes her chair in
and announces to everyone, "This food is too amazing to be
passed up. I'm going to find my Vandie" yes, the personal
pronoun is in there, ah, sisterly love, "before he misses
any more of this scrumptous food. Please excuse me." she
finishes with a nod and walks with purpose, or is that annoyance,
to the doors to find her brother.
Utoxin leands to where he can see Trini, now that he's finished
his food, and calls out, just loud enough to be heard. "This
isthe best fish I've ever had!"
Kaetetrini glaces from watching Rokeya leave, a look, though what
quite is hard to tell, on her face, to Utoxin.
"Thankee," she nods to him politely, beaming a smile,
and turning to Fina, "You like it?" she asks, despite
hving already gotten a compliment on it.
Sarafina grins at the changing-colour Trini; aww....
"Y'know, if you go any shades brighter, you'll be enough
glow to keep the room alight..." she winks playfully, before
chewing more fish.
Sarafina then nods, rolling her eyes. "Yes I like it..
You're a fantastic cook and this sumptuous dinner proves
it!" she neatly steals herself another slice of clah bread -
whats left anyway - and mops up whats left of her fish dish.
"This was definately lovely fish - great recipe."
Emmett savours the fish as long as he can, but in the end it's
gone, with a loud unapologetic burp to punctuate the event. He
raises his glass at Trini again, "Congratulations Trini! You
going to do this every sevenday?" Please?
Utoxin calls out a second to that. "Aye! Every sevenday
would be good!"
Kaetetrini shrugs, looking like she'll faint with all the blood
rushing to her head, "It was Sabias'," she mutteres,
before glancing at the kitchen door, she's gonna catch those
drudges when they bring the next course. A quick glance at
Emmett, with a 'you must be mad' look, makes her miss the the
open door, as once again, a parade of platters are trooped
through from the kitchen. A silver platter, ovular in shape. On
one side, a raspberry light cake sits, airy and delicious. On the
other side, a matching small pitcher contains the raspberry sauce
which gives the dish its name. The cake itself can only be
described as 'fluffy' and 'light,' very light tan in color, and
rather tasteless on its own. But when you add the sauce to it
which sits on the side of the tray, the flavor is brought out
deliciously, blending the sharpness of the lemon with the sweeter
flavor of the raspberries, and the sweeter still sugar, which
makes up the thick sauce. Altogether, it makes for a wonderful
presentation, and hopefully a delicious desert. The last course
of the dinner. Trini stands up, and taps the table gently, trying
to get the attention of the eaters once again, "This final
dish is called Raspberry Light Cake, and is the creation of
Journeywoman Jenisye, of Ista Hold." And down she goes
again.
Quedista yawns, attempting to make it polite, and excuses
herself. "I'm sorry, Rel, I need to go. I'll see you another
time." She smiles at Rel."
Rel returns the smile, gladly taking her slice of cake,
"Surely," he replies, before diggin in.
Utoxin licks his lips, and quickly takes a large piece, with a
generous dolop of the sauce.
April takes a big slice of the cake, knowing this will be good,
just by looking at it. She adds some sauce to it, lightly
dropping it in the middle of her slice. Her face lightns up as
the delivate cake touches her mouth, taste buds getting into
action. She gleams brightly, finishing the cake with a smile on
her face, "Best I've ever tasted!" And believe her,
April has tasted /alot/ "Very VERY good." She says with
a nod.
Utoxin takes a taste of his, then quickly tastes all the rest.
Yep, it's all just as good as the first bite. Or better!
A drudge takes Trini's fish away, and replaces it with a slice of
cake, the fish untouched, and the cake looking as if it's going
to remain so. Her eyes sweep the room again, as people finish
their plates.
Emmett is mad, yes. Did you ever doubt it? And right now he's
happily burying eating utensils into that cake, excavating great
chunks of sponge, fruit and icing. Trinis' plate is eyed greedily
while he's at it, "You going to eat that?"
Kaetetrini looks down at her cake, and then back up at Emmett.
"Nay," she replies quietly, and with a smile, hands the
plate over.
April walks over to trini while munching the last of her second
piece, "Wow. This food was /great/ Delicious! The best! But
why haven't you eaten anything?"
Shamelessly, Emmett starts eagerly on his second helping. Must
prolong the end of the meal as long as possible.
Kaetetrini looks up, blushing that bright, redfruit kind of
color, and blinks at April's question. She looks at Emmett eating
and then to Sarafina, then back to April. "I'm not
hungry," she says gently with a soft smile. "I eat all
day in the kitchen...." her voice trails off.
Sarafina just eats and eats, licking her lips once she's done
like the proverbial cat who's got the cream. Mrrow. "Oh,
Trini... that cake is simply wonderful!" eye gleam as she
idly reaches for a second slice.
April shrugs, "Oh yeah, you got a good point there. But like
I said, this food is the best I've ever had." Is she lying?
April has had lots of food in her life time, but she wasn't
experienced enough to cook like this. So, she isn't /really/
lying... right?
Utoxin finishes his cake, and gets up, heading up to be closer to
Trini. "Marvelous food, Trini. What I had of it. I came in a
little late..."
"Thanke you," Trini replies, nodding her head politely
to April. "You'll have better," she promises, "but
thank you anyway." A glance is thrown Utoxin's way, and
smile flashed for him, "That's ok...." again her voice
trails off.
Emmett at long last finishes and looks at Trini in worship.
"Never leave this hold." At least not without a
forwarding address.
Drudges begin to take up abondoned glasses of wine, and empty
plates, ferrying them to the kitchen. One drudge has a wine skin,
still milling around, filling the glasses of those patrons who
would like a little more.
Sarafina just grins at Trini, before rising from her seat.
"In a loud voice, so all can hear, although she is clearly
addressing her friend, she speaks. "Trini, this is one of
the best meals I've ever tasted, and you are a fabulous cook!
Thank you so much for holding this dinner..." she leans
close to trini, with words for her ears only - "But now I've
gotta go change - this skirt is just! argh!" with a wink she
vaishes away.
Emmett looks regretfully after Sarafina-in-a-skirt. Not likely to
see that again any time soon. But the wine is still flowing and
he nods happily to Trini. "Good party, you pleased with
it?"
Kaetetrini glances from Emmett from Fina, and blushes slightly at
his comment. "I'm glad you like it, Emmett," she says
in a half studder, rising herself, as Fina leaves. "Aye, I'm
happy with it," Trini continues, and smile on her face to
prove it.
Emmett sighs gratefully at her, "I'm happy with it too. More
wine over here?" He flags down a passing drudge, as his
glass once more threatens to empty. "Any leftovers?" he
wonders, just on the off chance.
Utoxin makes his excuses, and heads out.
Kaetetrini points to the back table, "All you want, Emmett
my dear," she smiles at him broadly. "All you
want."
